Suspect Arrested Over Security Breach At Patricia

—

The Nigerian Police Force has apprehended Wilfred Bonse regarding a significant security breach that caused a substantial loss to the fintech platform, Patricia, earlier this year. Patricia encountered a system breach in May, resulting in a $2 million loss and temporary suspension of withdrawals from its platform.
This breach affected Patricia’s retail trading application, compromising its BTC and Naira assets. Consequently, Patricia paused withdrawals temporarily to conduct an internal restructuring. According to Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Bonse is allegedly involved in laundering 50 million Naira from a fraudulent diversion of 607 million Naira from Patricia’s account to his bank account through a cryptocurrency wallet.
The case involves criminal conspiracy, unauthorized computer system modifications, network data tampering, and an illegal diversion of funds exceeding 200 million Naira, as reported in a petition to the Inspector General of Police. Though other individuals are mentioned in the petition, Bonse’s arrest marks a breakthrough in the investigation.
