FG Prepares N100 Billion Police Housing Fund – IGP

—

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) officers and men are facing housing issues. To solve this, the federal government plans to establish a N100 billion Police Housing Fund, which Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has announced.

The declaration was made on Monday at the opening of the first Nigerian Police Housing Summit, which took place in Abuja.

The summit’s subject, “Revived Hope for Police Housing in Nigeria,” was to discuss housing as a vital welfare instrument for law enforcement.

In his speech at the function, the IGP outlined the goals of the summit and emphasized the necessity of providing NPF soldiers with adequate and functional housing.

He pointed out that attaining this objective would be greatly aided by the proposed Police Housing Fund.

“The creation of a 100 billion naira police housing fund will be a crucial discussion point. Key players and institutions are being engaged, and preliminary assessments are in progress,” the IGP said.

Citing the current housing shortage that affects over 400,000 members of the force, the IGP emphasized the importance of providing suitable accommodation for police officers both during and after their service.

He bemoaned the fact that the accommodations in the barracks were not up to the standards of contemporary law enforcement and were mostly insufficient.

While acknowledging earlier NPF efforts to address the housing shortage, such as the formation of the Nigerian Police Force Property Development and Construction Co Ltd, the IGP emphasized the necessity of a strategic review and redesign of the implementation framework in order to sufficiently address the housing needs of officers.

According to the IGP, the Nigerian Police Accommodation Summit provides an essential forum for talking about and formulating plans to offer both active and retired members of the force easily accessible and reasonably priced accommodation.

To promote all-encompassing solutions, sub-themes including “Pragmatic Solutions for Police Housing” and “Accessible Housing: An Indispensable Welfare Tool” will be investigated.

With renewed hope for police housing in Nigeria, the IGP expressed optimism that the summit will open the door for the prompt delivery of high-quality, reasonably priced housing solutions for NPF officers.
