The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday in commemoration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).Â
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Minister Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, as they observe this special occasion.
While also encouraging Muslims and Nigerians at large to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience during this period, the Minister emphasized the importance of using the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebrations as an opportunity for prayers for peace and the continued prosperity of Nigeria.
He urged citizens to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and work towards fostering a more peaceful and egalitarian nation.
