Borno State Governor Inspects Hospital, Plans Overhaul

—

Governor Babagana Zulum paid a surprise visit to the Mamman Shuwa Memorial Hospital, an established government facility in Maiduguri, for an unplanned inspection.

During the inspection, His Excellency noted credible information from a concerned individual pointing out significant deficiencies in essential instruments such as glucometers and blood pressure apparatus.

Additionally, there were shortcomings in critical equipment, raising concerns about the hospital’s ability to provide adequate medical care.

Expressing worry about the state of the consulting rooms, Governor Zulum highlighted the impact on medical professionals’ effectiveness in carrying out their duties.

He also mentioned that even cesarean operations were reportedly being performed by corps members, compromising the overall environment.

Governor Zulum appealed to the public for patience and pledged to investigate the reported issues.

He committed to initiating renovations and ensuring the hospital is adequately equipped. Emphasizing the broader perspective, he stressed the need to address not only the physical infrastructure but also the ongoing maintenance and sustainability of the facility.

To address this, Governor Zulum proposed establishing maintenance units in all state hospitals. He suggested holding both maintenance officers and hospital management accountable for any issues that might arise.

Pointing out the deteriorating state of the facilities, Governor Zulum stated, “You can see the power-generating room, the water-taps, and other facilities, all in bad shape. A minimum of 200,000 naira can repair all this, but people prefer to wait for the governor to do everything. We have to change the narrative.”

Governor Zulum promised to assess the current staffing levels of doctors, nurses, and other health workers.

He recommended finding and bringing in more healthcare workers to assist in various hospitals across the state, ultimately aiming to improve healthcare services for the community.
