Sultan calls for unity among Nigerians, warns against cursing leaders

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has emphasized the need for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians to foster the growth and development of Nigeria.

This call was made on Saturday during the official opening of the Alhaji Abdullahi Habib Memorial Mosque at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), which was generously built and donated by Dr Maimuna Abdullahi, a widow.

Represented by the Emir of Keffi, Shehu Chindo-Yamusa III, the sultan commended the gesture and urged Nigerians to consistently show respect for leaders and uphold the rule of law for the nation’s betterment.

He stressed the importance of praying for leaders rather than cursing them, as it contributes to the well-being of the nation.

The Vice-Chancellor of FUL, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed gratitude for the significant donation to the school.

He highlighted the Mosque’s role in symbolizing a shared commitment to knowledge, compassion, and service to humanity.

Akinwumi called on well-spirited individuals to further contribute to the mosque’s development to complete the architectural designs.

Describing the mosque as a historic moment for the university, Akinwumi quoted Quran chapter 57 verse 18, emphasizing the reward for those who contribute in charity.

He lauded Dr Maimuna Abdullahi and her family for their generosity and blessed the late Squadron Leader Abdullahi Habib, in whose memory the mosque was built.

Dr Maimuna Abdullahi, the donor, shared that the mosque was a realization of her late husband’s dream.

She explained that her family, as a way of giving back to God and society, had previously built and donated three mosques in Kogi.

In addition to the mosque, the family donated 75 copies of the Qur’an to FUL as part of their commitment to serving the Almighty God.

Abdullahi expressed that this act was just the beginning of their family’s resolve to serve God.
