In a recent statement, the government of Kogi State strongly rejected accusations made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against former Governor Yahaya Bello.
The government claims that the EFCC’s actions are driven by political motives and aim to damage the state’s reputation.
The statement points out the absurdity of the EFCC’s allegations, especially the claim that Bello diverted state funds months before he took office.
According to the government, this accusation is unfounded and reveals the EFCC’s intention to discredit Bello for personal reasons.
Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, stressed that Bello couldn’t have been involved in diverting funds in September 2015 because he hadn’t yet become governor.
The statement also criticized the EFCC’s methods, such as naming people as “at large” without solid evidence.
The government affirms its commitment to transparency and accountability, denying any wrongdoing regarding missing funds and highlighting its history of responsible financial management.
It calls on Nigerians to question the EFCC’s integrity and demands accountability from the commission’s leadership.
Moreover, the statement recalls previous instances where the EFCC made false accusations against the Kogi State Government, adding to suspicions of political bias within the commission.
The government promises to defend its integrity and urges citizens to remain calm amid the ongoing dispute.
