Yobe Police Set to Detonate Unexploded Bomb

The Yobe State Police Command has announced plans to carry out a controlled detonation of a high-powered explosive device in Damaturu on Wednesday, July 3.
In a statement issued in Damaturu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the detonation will be conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Police Unit.
He explained that the detonation will take place at 1:00 p.m. in a secured area along Gashua Road, a safe distance from the police headquarters.
Abdulkarim assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, as all necessary safety measures have been put in place to ensure the exercise poses no risk to residents.
The explosive device was reportedly discovered along Potiskum Road and is believed to have been abandoned by scrap metal dealers.
He recalled the tragic incident in Kano on June 22, 2025, where an explosive device went off at a scrap site, killing 15 people. He urged scrap dealers, especially those in conflict-prone areas, to stop collecting or buying suspicious metal objects.
“We advise the public to immediately report any strange or suspicious items to the nearest police station or security agency for proper investigation,” he said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, also warned that anyone caught handling, buying, or selling explosive materials will be arrested and prosecuted for endangering public safety.
