The Nigerian entertainment industry has been struck by two emotional developments this week: the death of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola’s only son, Ayomikun Oluwanisola, and a Lagos court order directing DNA tests to determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, the only child of late Afrobeats singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Death of Peju Ogunmola’s Son
Ayomikun Oluwanisola, son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola and actor Sunday Omobolanle (popularly known as Aluwe) has sadly passed away.
His death was announced on Tuesday, September 2, though details of the location of his passing remain private.
Following the news, tributes began pouring in immediately after the announcement, just weeks before his birthday on October 12.
Condolences from Nollywood colleagues flooded social media. Actress Biola Adebayo described the loss as “devastating and heartbreaking.”
Actor Femi Adebayo called it “a line too heavy for the stage,” while Odunlade Adekola and Muyiwa Ademola prayed for divine comfort for Ogunmola. Actor Adedimeji Lateef wrote: “My heart goes to the entire family in this dark hour.”
Ogunmola, a respected figure in Yoruba cinema, is now mourning what colleagues described as an unbearable tragedy.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Court-Ordered DNA Test in Mohbad’s Case
The son of late singer Mohbad and his widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, Liam Aloba, who was born in April 2023 has been ordered by a Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu ordered that two DNA tests be carried out; one in Nigeria and another in an accredited hospital abroad.
The application was filed by Mohbad’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba.
Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga issued the ruling at the Family Court in Ikorodu, Lagos on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, with proceedings adjourned to November 11, 2025.
Mr. Aloba argued that there was uncertainty surrounding Liam’s paternity, and the DNA test was necessary to settle the matter conclusively for the child’s welfare and maintenance obligations.
The court directed that samples may also be taken from Mohbad’s remains preserved at the Military Hospital, Yaba, and that both parties or their representatives must be present when the samples are collected.
The widow’s counsel, Kabir Akingbolu, did not oppose the application. The ruling follows ongoing disputes over Mohbad’s estate, royalties, and the circumstances of his controversial death in September 2023.
