In a tragic disaster that has claimed the lives of over 1,577 people, Maiduguri is grappling with the aftermath of devastating floods, as the death toll continues to rise. 
According to a member of the Rescue Team, who spoke with ‘The News Chronicles’ on Saturday evening at the NEPA office Area in Maiduguri, the floods have wreaked havoc on the city, leaving many dead and countless others displaced.
The official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that over 1,577 people have perished as the relentless floods swept through Maiduguri.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams working tirelessly to recover bodies and provide aid to survivors.
The floodwaters showed no sign of receding on Sunday, as certain parts of the city continued to be submerged.
Emergency response teams are battling challenging conditions in their efforts to reach affected areas.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed, with authorities warning that the death toll could increase as rescue operations continue.
Local authorities and humanitarian organizations have mobilized to provide assistance to those displaced by the disaster, offering temporary shelter and basic supplies.
