Troops Overpower Boko Haram in Fierce Gun Battle, Kill Scores in Borno

Several Boko Haram and Islamic West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have been reportedly killed, following a gun battle with the Nigerian Troops at Gajigana in Borno.

This was made known in an update on Monday by the Defence Media Operations.

Its Coordinator, Major General John Enenche said the troops of 212 Bn, Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE had earlier received credible intelligence report on BHT convergence and advancement to attack troops’ location at Gajigana from Goni Usmanti Village in Nganzai Local Government Area, hence the Military laid ambush and forthrightly repelled the attack.

Enenche added that, in complimenting the artillery of the ground troops, the Air Task Force also provide close air support through aircraft and helicopter gunships.

He said after the long hours of gun battles, the terrorists suffered a lot of casualties, with One (1) destroyed the gun truck and Two (2) abandoned gun trucks at Mitturu Village were discovered by the troops.

Other items include 2 AK-47 rifles, 3 magazines, 36 rounds of 7.62-millimetre special ammunition, two 36 hand grenades and one LG3 bomb.

The Military High Command, therefore, congratulated the troops on their gallantry and professionalism, urging them to remain resolute and continue to sustain the offensive against the perceived enemies of the nation.
