TikTok has launched a new feature, “Sound Search,” that allows users to find songs by singing, humming, or playing them.
This innovation, currently available to a select number of users in specific regions, is poised to enhance the app’s music discovery capabilities significantly.
Similar to YouTube Music’s song detection tool, Sound Search offers a broader scope by surpassing Shazam. Unlike Shazam, which requires the actual song to be playing, TikTok’s Sound Search can identify songs from users’ humming or singing, making it a versatile tool for music enthusiasts.
In addition to identifying songs, Sound Search can also show videos that use the detected songs. This feature is expected to boost trend discovery on TikTok, allowing users to find and participate in trending content more easily.
While the tool performs exceptionally well with popular songs on the app, it still encounters glitches with less well-known tracks. Nonetheless, its ability to detect TikTok-specific sounds and memes adds a unique dimension to its functionality.
Users can access the Sound Search feature by navigating to the search bar, clicking the microphone icon, and selecting “Sound Search.” This intuitive process aims to make music discovery on TikTok seamless and user-friendly.
This strategic move by TikTok is designed to enhance its search capabilities and position the platform as a strong competitor to YouTube Music and Shazam.
However, the full release date for all users remains unknown, as the feature is still being rolled out in phases.
By introducing Sound Search, TikTok continues to innovate and expand its offerings, reinforcing its position as a leading social media platform for music and trends.
