Survivor Blames Bus Driver as 3 are Burnt Beyond Recognition in Anambra Tragic Crash

Three persons were on Sunday evening, burnt beyond recognition in a fatal motor accident that occurred along the Ezinano-Nkwo Agulu section of the Agulu-Ekwulobia road.

The fatal lone accident involved a 14-seater commercial transportation bus, headed from Amawbia in Awka South Council Area, to Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA.

An eye witness had said the bus was at high speed when it tried to avoid a major pothole on the road, resulting in its veering off the course.

As a result of the sudden veering, the bus somersaulted many times and caught fire.

As the fire escalated to an inferno, many passengers with minor injuries were able to escape from the vehicle, but three others who suffered serious injuries as a result of the impact of the somersault were unable to move by themselves.

Rescue attempts by sympathizers were marred by the raging fire, as on-lookers watched helplessly as the trapped individuals burned to death.

It was gathered that the among those who were burnt beyond recognition in the fire, were the driver of the bus, alongside two passengers (a male and a female).

A survivor, Mr. Chinonso who recounted the harrowing incident, regretted that they warned the driver severally to reduce the intensity of the speed but he blatantly ignored them.

“The fourteen-seater Mitsubishi bus we boarded, loaded at Amawbia to transport us to Ekwulọbịa, although I was headed to Ufuma.

“After departing Amawbia, a passenger cautioned the driver about the speed but he persisted.

“Unfortunately, as he attempted to avoid a pothole, the vehicle veered off the road, somersaulted, and caught fire.

“I, alongside other passengers, managed to escape, but our attempts to rescue the three victims were thwarted by the intense flames,” he lamented.

As of the time of filing this report, the victims remain unidentified, with security agencies already contacted for assistance.

The vehicle and the burnt bodies were also still at the scene.
