Soon, Nigerians Will Benefit From Subsidy Removal -Gbajabiamila

President Bola Tinubu

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has indicated that citizens would benefit from the fuel subsidy removal in no distant time.

The former House of Representatives’ speaker gave this indication after casting his vote at Polling Unit 014, Ward 08 at Elizabeth Fowler Memorial School, Surulere, Lagos state, in the House of Representatives by-election in the constituency on Saturday 3 February 2024.

While reacting to the present economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians, the Chief of Staff maintained that the Tinubu administration remained empathetic to challenges being faced by Nigerians.

However, he noted that it was a global situation that must be treated cautiously.

Gbajabiamila stressed that the challenges being faced by Nigerians can be attributed to the fact that some basic things were initially not put in place.

He emphasized further; “It is those economic fundamentals that this administration is trying to put in place, including fuel subsidy removal which was a national concession that it must be removed.

“I assure you that the benefits of subsidy removal will be reaped soon. It’s not immediate but the President knows what he is doing, and at the end of the day, everything will work out fine.”

Commenting on the issue of insecurity, the chief of staff tasked Nigerians to rally round the President and his government rather than pelting blames and negatively criticizing the fight against insecurity.

He averred that security remains a public concern and that the President is in the forefront of it all and deeply committed in addressing the current security challenges.

Addressing journalists on the by-election, Gbajabiamila stated that the process had been peaceful and seamless from the point of accreditation and voting.

The Chief of Staff appealed to whoever emerge victorious in the election to be focused, dedicated and committed to the people of Surulere.

He revealed that parliamentary responsibilities come with a lot of experience and carrying the interest of constituents along.

“It may seem difficult at first but once you put your head down, and focus on the people, especially on national issues, success is assured.” he added.

It was gathered that 12 candidates of different political parties are wrestling for 121,111 votes of registered voters with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the election.

Recall that the seat became void following the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who after winning, took an appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
