Senior Immigration Officer Killed During Cattle Recovery Operation in Plateau State

—

Senior immigration officer serving as the Administration Officer of Sector 4 of Operation Safe Haven in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State was killed in the Fan community, Fan District.
The officer, identified as Christopher Luka, a two-star immigration officer, played a crucial role as the assistant sector commander of Sector 4.
Operation Safe Haven is a multi-security taskforce designed to maintain peace in Plateau State.
This taskforce comprises soldiers, immigration officers, police, the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, and customs officials, all working collaboratively to ensure the security and safety of the region.
According to reliable sources in Barikin Ladi, Officer Luka met his untimely death on Wednesday night. He was leading a team of troops to recover cattle that had been rustled in the area on Friday.
The operation to recover the stolen cattle had seen initial success, with reports indicating that 92 cattle were rustled and 52 were recovered through the dedicated efforts of the sector commander and his team.
However, the situation took a turn for the worse as the operatives attempted to recover the remaining 40 cattle.
During this recovery effort, they were attacked, leading to the tragic death of Officer Luka.
The killing of the assistant sector commander prompted a swift response from the personnel of Operation Safe Haven.
Troops were mobilized to the area on Wednesday morning in response to the incident, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the commitment of the taskforce to address the security challenges in the region.
Despite several attempts to obtain an official statement, the command’s spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, did not respond to calls or reply to a text message from Newsmen.
This lack of response has left many questions unanswered regarding the specifics of the attack and the measures being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
