The royal website has experienced a cyber attack.
The attack was a denial of service attack (DDoS), characterized by a high volume of traffic overwhelming the website’s server, causing disruption.
Despite being online, the royal website was implementing additional security checks for users on Sunday lunchtime.
Earlier on Sunday, the website displayed an error message and prevented access.
The source did not identify the responsible party, emphasizing that it was not a hack and that no access was gained to the website’s systems or content.
A Russian hacker group called Killnet claimed responsibility for the attack on their Telegram channel, but this claim remains unconfirmed.
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden warned earlier that Russia-linked cyber attack groups aim to “disrupt or destroy” the UK and may exhibit less restraint than national actors, posing a significant concern.
