Nigerians, led by Peter Onuma and Okpanachi Jacob, organized a protest at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters.Â
They wanted the EFCC to investigate quickly into the alleged N80 billion fraud involving the former Governor of Kogi State and other important people.
The protest focused on how corruption harms the people of Kogi State, especially the civil service. Workers there only get a small part of their salaries, which hurts the local economy a lot.
They talked about the problems caused by the previous government under ex-Governor Bello. It led to people losing their jobs, some even died, and many faced tough times.
Onuma said the state’s economy suffers because greedy and careless people are in charge.
The group had several demands. They wants a detailed of Kogi State’s spending from 2016 to January 27, 2024. They also need an investigation into the former Governor and other corrupt officials.
They asked for the results of a screening exercise done by Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration to be made public. Plus, they called for a thorough investigation into anyone involved in the alleged N80 billion and N10 billion fraud cases.
The group praised the EFCC for fighting corruption and asked them to also look into the issue of workers getting only a percentage of their salaries.
They believed the current government in Kogi State is continuing the corrupt practices of the past.
