Olaiya Igwe apologizes for nude prayers in support of Tinubu

—

Veteran Yoruba actor, Olaiya Igwe, has publicly apologized to Nigerians for his nude prayer session in support of President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. This apology arrives amidst the prevailing hardships faced by Nigerians due to President Tinubu’s economic policies.

Since his unconventional beachside prayer for Tinubu’s victory in 2023, Olaiya has faced significant criticism. In a video titled “Apologies to All My Fans,” shared on his YouTube channel, the actor explained that his actions were motivated by what he perceived as a divine revelation.

“I went nude at the beach to pray for Tinubu, guided by what I believed to be a divine message. I backed him as a gesture of gratitude because he has been a benefactor to me. Nigerians, please accept my apologies. I understand that my actions may have contributed to the hardships you’re enduring. I acknowledge your anger,” he expressed remorsefully.

“Perhaps if the country had seen positive changes since Tinubu’s assumption of office, the criticisms directed at me would have ceased. Nigerians, both at home and abroad, are distressed by the current state of affairs. I urge Tinubu to address the unmet expectations of Nigerians. It is imperative that he establishes a monitoring team to ensure his appointees fulfill the promises made to citizens,” he added.

Igwe’s statement comes in the wake of similar expressions of discontent, including from prominent Tinubu supporter and musician, Kwam 1, regarding the prevailing hardships in Nigeria.
