Wife and adopted daughter of murdered Kwara monarch freed

Olori Iyabo Aremu, who is the wife of the late Olukoro of Koro Ekiti in Kwara State, General Segun Aremu-Cole (retired), along with two others, have been freed after being kidnapped.

The abduction happened on February 1, 2024, when armed men attacked the palace around 9 pm. Sadly, the monarch was killed during the attack.

However, Olori Aremu, her adopted daughter, Feranmi, and another victim were taken captive. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N100 million, but later reduced it to N40 million.

Thankfully, on Monday night, February 5, 2024, Olori Aremu, her adopted daughter, and the other victim were released and returned to Koro town around 10:45 pm.

This welcome news was confirmed by Chief Samuel Ayobola, the Asiwaju of Koro, and Chief Kayode Kehinde Bayode, the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) chairman of the council.

“The news just received from home confirms that Olori and the girl have been released and have returned to Koro about 30 minutes ago,” the Asiwaju of Koro, Chief Samuel Ayobola, told newsmen.

The community is relieved by their safe return, and the police are expected to provide more details on the rescue operation.

It’s a tragic event that the monarch lost his life during the kidnapping, but the release of his wife and the other victims brings some comfort to the community.
