NPFL REVIEW: MFM relegated, while Rivers United and Plateau United seal Champions League spot

With two games to end the blockbuster season, MFM horrendously has been relegated to Nigeria National League after failing to rise above 36 points in all their 36 games played. The 1-2 defeat they suffered at home to Ikon Allah’s boys yesterday dented their opportunity to remain in the first direction league.

During the game yesterday Idris Munir lit up the stadium scoring at the 22 minutes for Ikon Allah. At the 63-minute, Chukwudi Ekeocha levelled for MFM, unfortunately for them, Tornadoes scored at the injury minute.

With 36 points and two games available Mountain of Fire Ministry, FC can only acquire a maximum of 42 points and can’t go above Dakadda who sits 19 places with 43 points.

Table-toppers Rivers United and Plateau United won their games yesterday and were able to seal a continental qualification. Rivers who are 2021-22 NPFL champions will play in the CAF Champions along with Plateau United.

Six teams are in the fight for the CAF Confederation spot (3rd) place. Remo who won their game against the People’s Elephant is the favourite to retain the spot with 56 points. Kwara is next to Remo with 55 points, next to Kwara is Rangers with 53 points, Enyimba has 52 points while Sunshine Stars and Akwa United have 51 points respectively.

In the relegation battle, teams from the the11th spot can still be relegated with Katsina United, Heartland and Dakadda looking likely to join MFM.

The Eunisell golden boot race has been drawn to the wire with three players Abdulazeez Yusuf, Chijioke Akuneto and Victor Mboama going head-to-head with 16 goals each.
