MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, one of the biggest players in the downstream oil sector in Nigeria, has set a new pricing for gasoline at N935 per litre at all of its retail service stations across the country.
This comes after Dangote Industries Limited President Aliko Dangote said that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has teamed up with MRS Oil and Gas to sell petrol at retail outlets for N935 per litre after the ex-depot price was lowered from N970 to N899.50 per litre.
MRS Oil Nigeria Plc has responded by directing all of its locations to start using the new price right away.
To guarantee complete compliance, a digital platform and monitoring staff have been established. Nigerians have also been urged by the firm to report any establishments that do not follow the new pricing structure.
“Petrol is now being sold at N935 at MRS Filling Stations nationwide,” a press release by the company stated.
“We call on all petrol station owners to join MRS Oil Nigeria Plc in improving the supply chain of our beloved country, ensuring product quality and availability in every corner of Nigeria for the benefit of all Nigerians,” MRS Oil continued.
Our correspondents’ checks yesterday verified that all MRS Oil and Gas retail locations across the country have adopted the new price.
Commuters were observed waiting in line to buy petrol at MRS filling stations in Lagos. Many thanked MRS Oil and Gas and Dangote Petroleum Refinery, and they encouraged other marketers to support the domestic refinery instead of bringing in off-spec goods.
Dr. Tunde Akanni, a university lecturer and public affairs specialist, stated that the partnership between MRS Oil and Dangote Petroleum Refinery is a major step in enhancing the sustainability, affordability, and quality of petroleum products in Nigeria.
“This action will not only alleviate the financial strain on Nigerians but also encourage a more ecologically responsible approach to fuel consumption, which will ultimately benefit the economy and public health,” said Dr. Akanni.
NNPCL reduces petrol price to N965/litre in Abuja
In the meantime, NNPC Limited has lowered the price of gasoline at its retail locations in Abuja from N1,030 per litre to N965.
Pump prices have been changed to match the new rates, according to checks conducted at NNPC retail locations in the Kubwa neighbourhood and the Central Area of the country’s capital.
Due to competition from Dangote Refinery’s product, the national oil company lowered the retail price of gasoline from N1,060 to N1,030 per litre two weeks ago.
Speaking to THE NEWS CHRONICLES at the Kubwa retail location, two drivers expressed their satisfaction with the move and urged the federal government to take other steps to further reduce the price.
Mr. Iliyasu Gambo, a commercial driver who travels the Nyanya–Zuba road, stated: “To find out the new price, I came in here yesterday. We want the government to do more, but they are making an effort. In order to lower the cost of other items, the pricing should return to N530 per litre.”
Private vehicle owner Mr. Martin Eliye, on his part, expressed his happiness at the most recent price cut by saying: “Many people did not trust President Bola Tinubu when he indicated that the results of his reforms would soon start to appear, but you can see it now.”
“We’re hoping that this trend will continue and that prices will keep declining. The economy depends heavily on petrol, and prices for other goods and services will soon decline as well. You’ll see it,” he stated confidently.
