Mother 30, dumps new-born baby inside pit toilet in Anambra

A 30-year-old woman has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for giving birth to a baby boy and dumping him inside a pit toilet.
The woman, Franca Udokwu from Obuba Obofia, Nkpor in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, was arrested on Saturday by Police operatives attached to Ogidi Division following a tipoff.
The baby was eventually brought out of the pit toilet but was certified dead by a medical doctor.
Speaking on the development, the Police spokesperson in Anambra, Haruna Mohammed said the suspect when accosted, took police detectives to the scene of the crime where the baby was recovered.
“On the 22nd August, 2020 at about 8:30am following a tip-off, police operatives attached to Ogidi Division arrested one Franca Udokwu ‘f’ aged 30 years.
“Suspect allegedly gave birth to a baby boy and dumped the child inside a pit toilet inside her house.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect led police detectives to the scene of the crime where the baby was recovered and taken to Iyi- enu Mission Hospital for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor,” the PPRO said.
He revealed that the baby’s corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy while the case is under investigation after which suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
