A dynamite explosion occurred early Monday morning at the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, causing extensive damage to the building.Â
The blast took place around 1 am, with eyewitnesses reporting that unidentified attackers threw dynamite-like explosives into the structure, shattering windows and doors and destroying party property.
This incident follows rumors that Governor Siminalayi Fubara may soon defect to the APP with his supporters, amid allegations that his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, has taken control of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
An APP official, who chose to remain anonymous, suggested that the attack was politically motivated.
“This is clearly a politically motivated act. The APP is rapidly growing in the state, and this attack is an attempt to hinder that progress. We urge the police to investigate and apprehend those responsible.”
The state police command has stated that they are currently unaware of the incident.
