Tech Billionaire Elon Musk has revealed that Starlink will provide internet access to humanitarian groups in the region.
Starlink, a satellite internet service developed by SpaceX, is known for its goal of bringing fast and reliable internet to remote places by deploying many satellites into space.
He made this known in response to worries raised by US congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) regarding the internet blackout in Gaza due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes.
The blackout has affected Gaza’s people, including journalists, medical workers, aid groups, and civilians.
The internet shutdown in Gaza coincided with escalated Israeli attacks, hampering crucial services, such as emergency responses and communication for organizations like the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
This is not the first time Starlink has been used during crises.
In the past, it was sought by the Ukrainian government during the Russia-Ukraine conflict to provide satellite internet access for civilians and officials.
However, there was criticism about its availability in Russian-occupied areas during that time.
