FAAN Bans ‘Ghana Must Go’ Sacks in Nigerian Airports

—

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has banned passengers from bringing ‘Ghana Must Go’ sacks at all airports in Nigeria. According to them, the use of these bags has been linked to the breakdown of conveyor belt systems at various airports, imposing substantial costs on the airport authority.

The circular released by the aviation authority, titled ‘Re: Prohibition of Usage Of Ghana Must Go,’ was signed by the Manager of Airport Services, Henok Gizachew, who highlighted that the ban was primarily for travelers at international airports.

Gizachew explained that the authority has banned the use of ‘Ghana Must Go’ sacks because it was causing significant financial losses incurred by airlines and damage to the airports’ conveyor belt systems.

He emphasized that passengers intending to use such bags for travel must ensure they are well-packaged in cartons or rectangular hardcovers.

What are conveyor belt systems and how can ‘Ghana Must Go’ sacks damage them?

Conveyor belt systems are mechanical devices commonly used to move luggage between different areas, such as check-in counters, baggage claim, and sorting areas. These large and typically heavy bags may cause disruptions or malfunctions in the smooth operation of the conveyor belts by getting stuck, causing jams or blockages, or putting excessive strain on the machinery.
