First City Monument Bank (FCMB), a member of the FCMB Group Plc dedicated to promoting equitable and sustainable growth, and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) jointly acknowledged and honored Ngozi Kekwaaru and Auwalu Alkasim, two honorable Nigerians, for their honesty.
At the 58th Annual Bankers’ Dinner and Grand Finale of its 60th Anniversary festivities, held in Lagos, CIBN presented the Outstanding Integrity Award to Kekwaaru, a member of the staff of the Eko Hotel and Suites, and Mallam Alkasim, a tricycle driver in Kano.
While Alkasim was awarded for returning N15 million that a passenger in his tricycle had forgotten, Kekwaaru was honored for her selfless gesture of returning the $70,000 that a hotel visitor had left behind.
First City Monument Bank (FCMB) gave Kekwaaru and Alkasim N1 million each in cash as a thank-you for their outstanding deeds in addition to the CIBN’s esteemed award. This financial act demonstrates the bank’s sincere gratitude for your dedication to moral behavior.
Yemisi Edun, Managing Director of FCMB, stated during the event when presenting the cheques to the duo: “We extend our congratulations to Kekwaaru and Alkasim on their receipt of the CIBN’s Outstanding Integrity Award. Your deeds exemplify hope in a world where integrity is becoming increasingly rare, setting the bar high for others to reach. Your moral behavior is consistent with FCMB’s core beliefs, and we are honored to have you as a part of our larger community. Our N1 million incentive is our way of saying thank you for your activities, which uphold the value we place on integrity. We do not doubt that others will be motivated to pursue integrity in all their pursuits by your narrative.”
Dr. Ken Opara, President/Chairman of the CIBN Council, stated: “Kekwaaru and Alkasim’s unselfish deeds have shown what true honesty is all about. Their integrity and dedication to upholding moral principles in the face of selfish interests best represent the principles that guide the banking industry. The two demonstrated what the Institute’s motto, “Trust and Honesty,” calls for. The CIBN is proud to acknowledge their exceptional efforts and hopes that young Nigerians will be motivated to uphold the highest standards of integrity in both their personal and professional lives by their stories.”
