CAF CONFEDERATION: Edo Governor and Deputy salute Bendel Insurance for second round qualification

The Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Honourable Philip Shuaibu, have congratulated Bendel Insurance after the Benin Arsenal defeated ASO Chlef of Algeria to reach the second round of the CAF Confederation yesterday.

Prior to yesterday’s game, Insurance in Edo edged the Algerian outfit by a lone goal last week. ASO yesterday beat Insurance by a lone goal, resulting in a 1-1 aggregate. The tie was decided by a penalty shoot-out, in which the Benin Arsenal defeated the home side by 4-3 all thanks to their goalkeeper who put up a heroic performance by saving two penalties.

Governor Obaseki, congratulating the boys, said:

“Hearty congratulations to Bendel Insurance Football Club for putting up a brave fight to secure a victory over ASO Chlef of Algeria in a keenly contested match, which had to be settled in tension-soaked penalties.

The team’s doggedness paid off, and I charge them to more success as they proceed to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup.”

Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, on his Facebook page also celebrated the boys for their victory:

“Congratulations to our darling team Bendel Insurance FC Official for a quality performance and for securing a spot in the 2nd Preliminary Round of the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup.

Special recognition goes to Amas Obasogie for his outstanding performance and resilience in the goal line – saving one penalty in the regular time and two others in the shootouts when we thought all hope was lost—he is my man of the Match.

Once again, Congratulations to the team for putting up a good fight.”
