The Borno State Government revealed on Sunday that it has received report that a suspect confessed to being involved in setting fire to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.Â
The suspect claimed to have been hired by some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to carry out these actions.
The Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, stated that the matter is currently being investigated and that the government is awaiting the outcome of the investigation before taking further action.Â
Those arrested in connection with the incidents are currently in detention and are undergoing questioning. The NGOs implicated in the report have been summoned for initial questioning.
Professor Tar emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the recent increase in fire outbreaks in IDP camps saying that each incident is being investigated individually to determine the causes and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
The government assures the public that the matter will be dealt with promptly and in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the public is urged to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding. Any security concerns should be reported to the nearest law enforcement agency or traditional leaders for appropriate action.
