Borno State Bakers Announce Over 20% Price Increase for Bread and Other Products

The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Borno State Chapter, has announced an increase in the prices of bread and other baked goods.

The price hike, exceeding twenty percent, is attributed to the rising costs of production materials.

This announcement was made by the Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Bukar Mustapha, during a press briefing in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Monday.

The decision to raise prices was finalized following a management meeting held in Maiduguri.

In the official statement, the Association cited the sharp increase in the prices of flour and other essential ingredients as the primary reason for the new pricing.

The Chairman emphasized that the price adjustment was unavoidable given the current economic conditions affecting the baking industry.

According to the new pricing structure, various types of bread will see a noticeable increase. For instance, Jumbo bread, previously sold at N200, will now cost N240.

The price of Round bread will rise from N290 to N340, and Kalangu bread will now be N360, up from N300.

Other products have also been affected: Carpet bread will now sell for N480, up from N400; Luxy bread will increase from N500 to N600; Marcopolo bread will go from N600 to N720; and Family bread will now be priced at N1200, up from its previous price of N1000.

These new prices took effect on July 1, 2024, and are expected to remain in place as long as the cost of production materials continues to impact the industry.
