Youths of Ayamelum local government area of Anambra state have expressed their repulsion with the recent conduct of the member representing Ayamelum Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mmaduabuchukwu Udemezue.
Recall that Udemezue was recently suspended by the House of Assembly for three months without pay for alleged ‘unparliamentary conduct, inciting comments on social media, and abuse of legislative privileges.’
The suspension, announced by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics, and Privileges, comes after Udemezue posted on social media alleging marginalisation of his constituency in the area of constituency allowances, and accusing the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo of masterminding the kidnap and killing of a former lawmaker, Hon Justice Azuka.
Speaking after a solidarity march for the governor at the local government secretariat Anaku, the Ayamelum youths said Udemezue’s actions were uncouth, inciting, and uncivil.
According to Comrade Obinna Nweke, the convener of the march, the actions of the lawmaker were not a reflection of the values of the Ayamelum people, dissociating the constituency from the lawmaker’s agitations and affirming the community’s stand with Soludo.
He said, “The lawmaker’s recent conduct, marked by incivility, rascality, incitement, and uncouth utterances towards some revered authorities in Ayamelum and Anambra State at large, does not reflect the values of our people.
“Ayamelum Youths are civil, learned and respectful to our elders and constituted authorities.
“We the youths, disassociate ourselves completely from his agitations and affirm that Ayamelum stands with Governor Soludo,” he said.
Nweke commended the leadership of the State House of Assembly for the disciplinary actions taken against their representative.
They expressed the hope that the suspended lawmaker will utilize the three-month suspension period to retrace his steps and adopt the right approaches to representation.
The youths also seized the opportunity to call for the establishment of higher institutions, CBT Centre, and a digital library in the area, as well as the appointment of vibrant and educated youths of the community into the state cabinet and boards.
Describing Ayamelum as the food-basket of Anambra, with endowed human and natural resources, Nweke argued that the area would economically transform the local government and impact the state if properly harnessed.
“We respectfully solicit the Solution’s government to unlock Ayamelum’s full agro-potentials and integrate the town into the state’s developmental map.
“We also appeal for the construction of an alternative road linking Ayamelum people to Awka and other parts of Anambra State, as well as the rehabilitation of the only federal road leading to Otuocha,” he said.
While reaffirming their confidence in the Soludo Government, the youths declared 100% loyalty and support to Soludo’s re-election.
“First and foremost, we wish to commend the Solution Governor for his bold developmental strides that have directly touched the entire Anambra State, particularly Ayamelum.
“Among these include employment of over 200 teachers from Ayamelum under PPSSC and ASUBEB, as well as the recruitment of health workers.
