The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Yobe State has issued a strong condemnation following the killing of three individuals by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.Â
The incident, which occurred along the Damaturu-Biu Road, has sparked outrage and calls for increased security measures.
Reverend Ibrahim Abako, the state CAN secretary, expressed deep sorrow and condemnation in a statement released on Thursday.
He urged the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts against the insurgents to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
“On behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Yobe State chapter, we condemn in totality the killing of Christian youth along Damaturu-Biu Road,” Reverend Abako stated. “This incident has been happening frequently. We call on the government, especially the military and police, to take proactive measures to protect citizens regardless of their religious background.”
The tragic event reportedly took place on Wednesday when the assailants abducted the victims near Kamuya, a community on the border of Yobe and Borno states.
A relative of one of the victims recounted the harrowing experience, explaining that the attackers specifically targeted Christians.
“They were coming from Biu when the attackers stopped their vehicle and took four of them, who were Christians, into the bush. Three of them were later killed. We saw their corpses on social media,” the relative said. “We only found three bodies out of the four people abducted. We do not know the whereabouts of the fourth person.”
The abductors had previously contacted the victims’ families in Machina, Adamawa State, threatening to kill the hostages. This act has further heightened the fear and tension within the affected communities.
In light of these events, CAN has called on the government to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, emphasizing the need for immediate and effective action against the perpetrators of such violence.
The association’s statement reflects the urgent need for a more robust response to the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram in the region.
