Zulum introduces anti-terrorism syllabus for Islamic schools in Borno

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has introduced a new set of lessons for Islamic schools.

These lessons aim to stop violent ideas promoted by extremist groups and to prevent young people from joining these groups.

During an event at the Government House, Governor Zulum explained that Islamic schools in the state have been teaching without a common set of lessons for around three to four decades.

This lack of consistency worries many people because it may have contributed to the rise of groups like Boko Haram, which started from misleading teachings.

Governor Zulum promised to make sure that all Islamic schools follow the new lessons closely.

He stressed the importance of teaching and preaching in line with the true teachings of the holy books.

The governor also mentioned that the new lessons were created based on the rules of the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies.

He believes that students who study these lessons in private Islamic schools will be able to enter universities and colleges.

Before Governor Zulum spoke, Khalifah Sheikh Ali Abulfathi, the Chairman of the Arabic and Tsangaya Education Board, explained that the new lessons are based on the Maliki School of thought.

They focus on teaching Arabic, the Quran, Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad), Tauhid (belief in the oneness of God), and ethics.

Sheikh Ali Abulfathi said that the board reviewed how Islamic schools teach and what materials they use. They did this to make sure that students learn the knowledge and values they need.

He asked parents and others involved in education to support the new lessons. This, he believes, will help every child get a good Islamic education.
