Oscar Winner Emma Stone Requests ‘Emily’ as Preferred Name

Award-winning actress Emma Stone has made a surprising revelation about her identity.

Stone who recently won the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for her performance in “Poor Things” at the 2024 Oscars, disclosed that she actually prefers to be called by her birth name, Emily.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old actress expressed her desire for people to use her given name, Emily, instead of Emma. She explained that she initially opted for the name change because the name “Emily” was already claimed by another member in her actors’ union.

However, Stone admitted that she experienced a moment of realization a couple of years ago when she “freaked out” about not using her real first name. Despite the change, she shared that some of her colleagues now affectionately call her “Em,” finding it easier to bridge the transition.

Interestingly, Stone’s admiration for her childhood hero, Emma Bunton (also known as Baby Spice), influenced her decision to adopt the name “Emma” in the first place, as she revealed back in 2018.
