Bandits barricade Gusau-Sokoto Highway, kidnapping 26 travelers

Bandits kidnapped more than 26 travelers on Tuesday, afternoon along the Gusau-Sokoto highway.

They stopped vehicles near Kwaren Kirya village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The victims were taken from a Toyota bus and a Volkswagen car.

A person living there, who didn’t want to be named for safety reasons, said the situation is getting worse.

The bandits are blocking the road every day. They recently blocked another part of the road and took passengers from a bus and a car.

“As I’m talking now, about 30 minutes ago, these bandits have blocked another side of the road. They cleared the passengers of an 18 seater bus and a golf, the situation is worrisome because it has become an everyday thing for these people to be blocking the road,” the source said.

The resident is worried about a village called Balge along the highway. They believe many bandits live there.

The resident asked the government to put security posts around the area to stop the criminals.

They said, “There is a village called Balge, about 80% of people there are bandits. We just need the government to help us and put military around the area.”

The state police haven’t spoken about the recent kidnapping yet. They haven’t given any information or statements about what happened with the kidnapping of the travelers.
