Bayer Leverkusen and Super Eagles star Nathan Tella has withdrawn from Nigeria’s 23-man World Cup qualifiers matchday three and four squad due to family reasons.

Tella, who is part of the Bayer Leverkusen squad that helped the club secure its first Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles after many years of drought, was honored by newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, with a call-up for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying matches.

However, he has pulled out and has been replaced by Ibrahim Olawoyin of Caykur Rizespor, Turkey.

The confirmation was made on the Super Eagles’ X page, formerly Twitter, as follows:

Nathan Tella of Bayer Leverkusen has excused himself from the upcoming WCQ matches due to family reasons. Coach Finidi George has now called up Ibrahim Olawoyin of Caykur Rizespor of Turkey.”

Yesterday, Victor Osimhen was replaced by Enugu Rangers left-back Kenneth Ifboke after being ruled out with a four-week injury.

Nigeria will face South Africa in matchday three of the World Cup qualifiers in Uyo on May 7, 2024, and will travel to Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, for matchday four against Benin Republic three days later.
