UBA Dazzles in DBN Awards for Excellence in MSME Support and Women Empowerment

—

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc was once more a shining beacon of economic inclusion as it led at the 2025 Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Service Ambassador Awards ceremony in Lagos.

The bank was a shining example, sweeping four highly deserving awards for best practice in providing financial services to Nigeria’s micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs).

UBA was awarded the best overall contribution to MSMEs in the North-Central part of the country, the best contribution towards supporting women-owned MSMEs, and the highest impact in the North-Central region. It also received the Platinum Service Ambassador Award, the highest award of the day.

These awards reflect the bank’s commitment to propelling small business growth, bridging finance gaps in women-led businesses, and pushing financial inclusion in Nigeria’s under-banked regions. UBA pairs innovative financial products with capacity-building programs that address small businesses’ unique requirements.

Speaking at the ceremony, UBA Deputy Managing Director, Muyiwa Akinyemi, who accepted the Platinum Service Ambassador Award on behalf of the bank, stated that the award sustains UBA’s commitment to delivering long-term sustainable value to businesses and communities. He further noted that support for small and women-owned businesses is at the heart of UBA’s long-term economic policy.

During his keynote address, the Managing Director of DBN, Dr. Tony Okpanachi, acknowledged UBA’s unwavering and unrelenting support to MSMEs. He referenced the alignment between the bank’s vision and that of DBN in consolidating Nigeria’s entrepreneurial base. He pointed out the banking role of filling the funding gap that will inevitably hamper innovation and development for small business enterprises.

With this recognition, UBA is once more leading the charge for inclusive banking and a trusted partner in Nigeria’s quest for economic strength and shared prosperity.
