Supreme Court Rejects Ihedioha’s Application, Fines Ozekhome N40m

—

The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja has rejected an application filed by PDP’s Emeka Ihedioha, seeking to unseat the Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma from office.

The former deputy speaker of the House of Representative prayed the Court to give a consequential order to the Independent National Electoral Commission to offer a certificate of return to him as the duly elected governor in the 2019 governorship election in Imo state.

Delivering the lead judgment on Tuesday 5th December 2023, Justice Tijjani Abubakar, ruled that the application lacked merit, and was vexatious and frivolous.

He maintained that the court lacked the jurisdiction to decide on the matter, stating that the 60 days stipulated to hear the election matter had since passed.

Meanwhile, for bringing the matter before the court, Justice Abubakar, fined Counsel for the PDP, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, N40m.
