Sule Lamido to Support ADC in 2027 While Remaining in PDP

Former Governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has announced his decision to support the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections, while still maintaining his membership in the PDP.
Lamido stated that he plans to operate similarly to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who remains in the PDP but openly supports the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Just two weeks ago, Lamido and several other senior PDP members attended a meeting of concerned PDP leaders in Abuja, where a decision was made to back the ADC.
That meeting served as a buildup to the recent unveiling of the ADC as a new opposition coalition platform aiming to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, some PDP leaders aligned with Wike’s faction have already pledged their support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa and Monitored By The News Chronicle on Wednesday night, Lamido emphasized that Nigerian politics does not favor division and factionalism.
According to him, he is more interested in supporting the right candidate rather than being loyal to a political party alone.
He expressed concern about the deep divisions within Nigerian political parties, describing them as challenges that must be addressed urgently. Lamido blamed the PDP’s current crisis on internal issues, including hypocrisy and selfishness among members.
Despite his criticisms, Lamido stressed that he is committed to staying in the PDP to help reform and rebuild it.
His ultimate goal, he said, is to serve society by supporting positive change even if that means backing another party like the ADC.
