American musician and songwriter Stevie Wonder has officially become a citizen of Ghana.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo granted him citizenship on May 13, 2024. Mr. Wonder, along with his family, will now have dual citizenship in both the United States and Ghana.
During a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House, Stevie Wonder expressed his happiness at receiving this honor. He mentioned feeling a connection to Ghana due to his ancestry and expressed gratitude to everyone involved.
Stevie Wonder arrived in Ghana on May 13, 2024, following his decision in 2021 to move to the country permanently. He was warmly welcomed by fans and industry players at Kotoka International Airport.
This move fulfills Stevie Wonder’s desire, which he expressed in February 2021 during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. He cited political reasons for wanting to leave the United States.
