Six die celebrating Guinea’s win over Gambia in AFCON match

—

It’s a happy and sad one for the Guineas national team.

Following Guinea’s triumph over Gambia in the ongoing AFCON, six fans sadly lost their lives in wild celebrations that turned deadly.

According to reports from Agence France Presse (AFP), several individuals were injured in different traffic accidents, and three people died in a collision between two fast-moving automobiles. In the capital city, some fans were even seen enjoying themselves by perching on car bonnets.

“They must exercise extreme caution so as not to endanger themselves, as football’s purpose is to spread happiness rather than cause sorrow for families.”We encourage everyone to celebrate but to take care of themselves so that nothing bad happens to them since we do not want deaths to cause grief.

People in Guinea have an intense enthusiasm for football and watch the game differently than anyone else in the world. The legendary Pascal Feindouno of Guinea, who made three straight quarter final appearances for the national team between 2004 and 2008, added his voice to the calls for composure.

Feindouno advised the public to “support the country but don’t do anything to kill each other or oneself” and asserted that the news of fan deaths could destabilize the team. Following the triumph, fans in Guinea, a country renowned for its intense football culture, went on the streets to celebrate.

The sad events highlight how important it is for supporters to celebrate victories in a responsible manner and to put their safety first. Legendary football player Pascal Feindouno of the nation echoed the appeals for composure, warning that such actions could cause instability on the team and encouraging people to support their nation without putting their lives in peril.

Guinea’s football team is still playing in the Africa Cup of Nations despite the dire situation; with three points, they are now second in their group. Even while it’s part of the excitement of sports to celebrate wins, the sad incidents serve as a sobering reminder for spectators to put safety first so that the delight of victory isn’t overshadowed by untimely outcomes. Football great Pascal Feindouno supported the plea for calm, stating that lives shouldn’t be in danger in order to support the country.
