In an exclusive interview with Marca, FC Porto’s Nigerian striker, Samu Omorodion, revealed the emotional turmoil he endured during his time at Atlético Madrid last summer.
Omorodion’s candid remarks shed light on the difficulties he faced, which ultimately led to his departure from the Spanish giants
Omorodion recounted the isolating experience of training separately from the team, feeling disconnected from his teammates and struggling to find his place within the squad. “I was training separately. I didn’t feel like a part of the team, not like a footballer. I was training, and my mind was telling me otherwise. It was tough, really difficult,” he confessed.
The Nigerian striker expressed frustration over the lack of communication from Atlético Madrid’s management, leaving him in the dark about his future. “No one spoke to me to explain why, and I didn’t speak to anyone… as I already knew Atlético Madrid’s stance,” Omorodion revealed.
Omorodion also disclosed that he had a potential move to Chelsea fall through, but ultimately found solace in FC Porto’s willingness to trust him. “I didn’t move to Chelsea when the deal was almost done, at the end, it all happens for a reason…,” he reflected.
The 23-year-old striker’s dream of playing for Atlético Madrid was shattered when the club made it clear they didn’t want him. However, Porto’s faith in him has revitalized his career. “I wanted to play at Atléti, it was a dream… but they didn’t want me, and then Porto decided to trust me,” Omorodion said.
Since joining FC Porto, Omorodion has been in scintillating form, scoring seven goals in just seven games. The striker’s resurgence is a testament to Porto’s president and the team’s trust in him. “I have to say thanks to Porto and the president, as their total trust has made the difference. I’m happy,” he beamed.
Omorodion’s remarkable turnaround serves as a reminder that second chances can lead to remarkable success. As he continues to thrive at FC Porto, the Nigerian striker’s Atlético Madrid ordeal seems increasingly distant – a reminder that sometimes, the best opportunities arise from adversity.
