Pau Curbasi: When I Miss School for Games, I Get the Notes the Next Day

Barcelona’s rising star, Pau Cubarsí, has shared how he balances his academic studies with his career in top-level football.

In a recent interview, the 17-year-old defender explained that he’s currently in his second year of high school. Mornings are spent training with Barcelona’s senior team, and then he attends classes from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

When he has to miss school for away games, especially Champions League matches, he gets notes from classmates the next day.

Cubarsí stated: “I’m in the second year of high school. In the mornings, I train, and then I go to school in the afternoon. If there’s a Champions League game or travel involved, I ask for the notes of what I missed the next day.”

Since his senior debut with Barcelona last season, the young Spaniard has made waves with his impressive 35 appearances. Often compared to Gerard Piqué for his composure on the field, Cubarsí has successfully defended against top teams like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, where Barcelona achieved significant victories.

In Barcelona’s recent major matches, Cubarsí played the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 big win against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. Just days before that, he was part of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona team that secured a decisive 4-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Cubarsí also earned his first call-up to the Spanish national team, debuting in July during a UEFA Nations League A match against Serbia, where Spain triumphed 3-0.
