Nurse, 38 Arrested in Anambra for Inflicting Grievous Injury With Hot Iron on Nephew Over Theft

Anambra State Government on Wednesday, arrested a 38-year-old woman, Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe for allegedly inflicting grievous injury on the body of her 13-year-old nephew with heated electric iron.

A viral video had shown the young boy, identified as Chiemelie from Ezinifite- Aguata, narrating his ordeal to people, while in pain at Edoji-Uruagu in Nnewi North local government area of the state.

According to him, he stays with his aunt, his mother’s sister who is a nurse.

The incident which went viral on social media was brought to the attention of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo.

The suspect, a nurse from Ezinifite in Aguata local government area of the state, was said to have accused the victim of stealing from her.

She reportedly locked him up at home without any proper medication attention after the abuse.

“I disciplined him after he stole from me,” she said.

Speaking shortly after rescuing the victim, the visibly angry Commissioner said the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigations.

She warned intending offenders to desist forthwith or face the law, insisting that such dastardly acts would not be tolerated in the state.

She assured that justice would be served.

“It is important to note that the culprit is currently without her own child, which is the reason her little nephew was kept under her care,” she added.
