Northern governors seeks FG support for agriculture and development initiatives

The Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, recently visited President Bola Tinubu in Abuja to discuss the importance of stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments.

Their goal is to enhance the well-being of citizens. Yahaya praised the government’s efforts in resolving crises in Kaduna and Plateau states.

Yahaya emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between states, the federal government, and local governments.

He highlighted ongoing engagements related to healthcare and business environment reforms. He stressed that a united effort is essential for delivering necessary services to the people.

Speaking on agriculture, the governor stressed the need for farmers to adopt modern techniques for increased productivity.

Gombe State has been approved for the Special Agric Processing Zones, and an industrial park has been set up for processing agricultural produce.

Yahaya expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s directive for Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kaduna and Plateau states to gather information on recent attacks.

He praised the President’s commitment to taking the right actions to prevent future occurrences and thanked him for supporting the victims.

Governor Yahaya highlighted Gombe’s commitment to maintaining its reputation as the “Jewel in Savannah.” He underlined the state’s determination to contribute to Nigeria’s development.

Additionally, Niger State Governor, Abdulahi Bago, met with the President, discussing the security situation in his state.

Despite challenges, farmers in Niger are eager to return to their fields for dry season farming.

Bago mentioned Niger’s leading role in the food security initiative and outlined plans for 250,000 hectares of dry season farming.

 

Bago noted the emphasis on agriculture in President Tinubu’s New Year’s speech and the government’s plan to farm 500,000 hectares in 2024. Niger State aims to be a pilot state for this project.

 

The President expressed positivity and encouragement for Niger State’s farming initiatives, blessing their efforts.
