NiMet Predicts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain Starting Sunday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thundery and rainy weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday. 

The weather outlook, released on Saturday in Abuja, predicts morning thunderstorms on Sunday in Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Taraba states.

NiMet also forecasts thunderstorms in central states like Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, and Niger in the morning.

In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are likely in Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory.

In the southern regions, morning rains are expected in Imo, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Lagos states.

Thunderstorms with rain are anticipated in the afternoon and evening in Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Lagos states.

On Monday, early morning thunderstorms are forecasted in Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states.

In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected in Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, and Kaduna states.

For the central states, early morning thunderstorms are expected in Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are likely in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Morning rains are forecasted in Ekiti, Imo, and Cross River states, with afternoon and evening rains likely in Abia, Imo, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.

On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are predicted in Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Bauchi, and Kaduna states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected across most of the northern region.

In the central region, morning thunderstorms are expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger. The entire region is likely to experience thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

In the southern region, cloudy skies are forecasted with morning rains in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Afternoon and evening rains are expected across the entire region.

NiMet advises the public to take precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas with thunderstorms. Airline operators are also urged to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
