Nigerians abroad point fingers at anti-Wike elements for FCT kidnapping

—

Nigerians residing in the United States and the United Kingdom, represented by the United Nigerians for True Federalism (UNTF), North America Chapter, have expressed concern about the increasing rate of crime in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

They attribute this worrying trend to individuals opposing the practical developmental approach of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a recent email statement, the Secretary-General, Mr. Kenneth Friday, highlighted Nyesom Wike’s achievements in the FCT, including significant infrastructural projects and saving over N100 billion within his first six months in office.

However, opposition to Minister Wike’s strategies, particularly his support for President Bola Tinubu, seems to be fueling dissent.

Mr. Friday suggests that those against Wike may be involved in instigating and sponsoring kidnappings and insecurity around Abuja, aiming to disrupt the relationship between Minister Wike and President Tinubu.

Despite expressing concern about the rising cases of kidnapping and banditry in the FCT, Friday maintains confidence in the abilities of Minister Wike, President Tinubu, and the security chiefs to address these challenges effectively.

The UNTF, North America Chapter, supports the establishment of a Presidential Task Force at entry and exit points of the FCT and its surrounding communities to showcase the safety of the region for tourism and investment.

Mr. Friday urges the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to withdraw excessive security aides from VIPs and politicians, redirecting them to join the proposed Presidential Security Task Force, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to combat crime.

Addressing the alarming statistics of 87 deaths and 176 kidnappings in the FCT, Mr. Friday deems it a matter of international concern, urging President Tinubu to take proactive measures against violent crimes and expose their sponsors.

Despite acknowledging the challenges, he encourages Minister Wike to remain steadfast, assuring him of the support of millions of Nigerians worldwide.

Mr. Friday expresses solidarity with President Tinubu’s efforts to curb rising attacks in the FCT, emphasizing the potential consequences if peace and security are not restored promptly.
