A Nigerian terrorist, Sarkin Yaki, has shared multiple videos on TikTok showcasing bundles of ransom money paid by families of kidnapped victims.
With nearly 8,000 followers, his account features footage of him and his group celebrating their financial gains.
This trend highlights the growing use of TikTok by terrorist groups in Nigeria to flaunt their activities and recruit individuals.
Earlier this year, another terrorist asked Nigerians to share their bank details to receive money as a gesture of gratitude for praising their leader, Mohammed Bello Turji Kachalla, during protests against economic hardship.
A report by SBM Intelligence reveals that 7,568 people were abducted in Nigeria between July 2023 and July 2024, with kidnappers demanding over N10.9 billion in ransom, though they received only 9.5% of the requested amount.
States like Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina reported the highest abduction cases, while kidnappers in some regions opted for foodstuffs as ransom.
