The Plateau State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association caught someone pretending to be a doctor. They found out this person was treating people in schools and places of worship.
The chairman of the association, Dr. Bapigaan Audu, along with the association’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Istifanus Bako, revealed this information. They said the fake doctor used different names like George Ossai and Kelvin Paul.
The association worked with the state health ministry to investigate and arrest the fake doctor in Jos city. The suspect was then taken to the police station in Jos and detained.
The association and the health ministry advised people to report any suspected fake doctors.
They also said people could complain to the Inspectorate Unit at the state health ministry headquarters in Jos.
The association praised the cooperation of the security agencies. They urged people to only seek medical help from real health professionals in proper health facilities, like clinics or hospitals.
They warned against buying medicines or trusting anyone claiming to be a doctor outside of these places.
The association promised to keep helping the government and citizens with good healthcare. They also vowed to stop dishonest people from pretending to be doctors and hurting people.
In a separate incident, the police arrested someone in September last year for pretending to be a doctor.
This person was accused of taking a woman’s kidney during surgery. The victim’s husband, Kamal, said the fake doctor diagnosed his wife wrongly and took out her kidney.
Even though the fake doctor was taken to court, the Nigerian Medical Association in Plateau State said he was not one of their members.
