The AID Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), expressed concerns about the North West zone’s development level in relation to its substantial N1.2 trillion debt profile.Â
Emmanuel Bonet, the executive director, emphasized this during a press conference in Kaduna.
Bonet highlighted that the considerable debt of N1.2 trillion raises apprehensions, particularly when contrasted with the public’s expectations for development in the region.
The AID Foundation aims to keep this discussion in the forefront by providing avenues for citizens to understand who is responsible for the debt, why it was incurred, when, and for what purposes.
Additionally, they want to give people the opportunity to express their opinions on this matter.
To achieve these objectives, the AID Foundation is launching a competition targeted at residents of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, and Kaduna states.
The competition, open to individuals aged 18 and above residing in the respective states, invites participants to share their thoughts on how their state governments can secure funds for development.
A total prize fund of N700,000 is available, and participants can submit either a video or audio clip not exceeding 2 minutes or a written essay not exceeding 200 words outlining their suggestions.
The competition’s panel of 14 judges, drawn from tertiary and professional institutions across the North West zone, will evaluate submissions based on criteria such as adherence to time and word limits, proper use of hashtags, and the quality of input or suggestions.
This initiative aims to engage residents in constructive dialogue about viable strategies for their state governments to generate additional revenue for the overall development of their respective states.
