The Presidency has strongly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not addressing the recent economic and security challenges in the nation.

Abubakar, who competed against President Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), urged the President to step down if he couldn’t handle the security issues.

In response, the Presidency, through Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, accused Abubakar of ignoring Tinubu’s continuous efforts for peace and prosperity, dismissing it as political maneuvering.

The statement emphasized that Tinubu has been implementing effective structures and empowering different sectors, with visible positive outcomes.

It labeled Atiku’s remarks as reckless and implied that he might still be grappling with the aftermath of his electoral defeat, using any available opportunity to criticize President Tinubu.

Additionally, the Presidency clarified that President Tinubu, during his announced private visit to France, remained engaged with domestic affairs, evidenced by his influence on the inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

It asserted that Tinubu is actively managing the country’s security challenges, specifically directing efforts to address criminal activities like the recent murders and kidnappings in Ekiti State.

Highlighting achievements, the statement pointed out recent successes in combating kidnapping, with over 139 kidnappers arrested in Abuja, Kaduna, and Benue States in the past week.

It also mentioned the rescue of 154 abducted persons and President Tinubu’s approval of a substantial fund to address security challenges in the North East.

Furthermore, funds were allocated to enhance capabilities for tracking criminals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The statement urged Atiku to recognize President Tinubu’s dedication to restoring peace across the nation, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between the President and security agencies.

It conveyed confidence in the ongoing work to bring the security situation under control, with President Tinubu providing essential support to secure every part of the country.
