Nasarawa Appeal Hearing: Who Will Carry the Day?

With barely twenty-four hours remaining until the appeal hearing filed by the embattled Governor of Nasarawa state, Alh. Abdullahi A. Sule, against the People’s Democratic Party’s Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu, declared the winner of the March 11th, 2023 gubernatorial elections in the state. The people of the state, who have been waiting in bated breath for the outcome, have been urged to remain calm. They are also advised to refrain from making provocative statements that could overheat the polity.

Alh. Sule made this plea while speaking in an expanded security meeting at the government house in Lafia. The meeting, which addressed concerns such as recurring attacks on farmers by suspected herders in some local governments of the state—Nasarawa, Doma, Awe, Akwanga, Keana, and Obi—had in attendance key stakeholders in the state and supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Nasarawa state’s number one citizen also commended security agencies in the state for maintaining peace and order as he emphasized the need for them to do more to forestall any breakdown of law and order in and around border areas of the state. Sule also called on traditional rulers across the state to resume the engagement of vigilante groups for positive results in the fight against kidnapping and criminality across the state.

Earlier, the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, also called for peace while urging members and supporters to tread with caution in engaging the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state on matters relating to the court battle.

The appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress’s Abdullahi A. Sule to challenge the victory of the People’s Democratic Party’s David Emmanuel Ombugadu will be heard at the Appeal Court in Abuja on November 15th, 2023.”
